FAQ
What is Save Override?
Save Override keeps a full history of your game saves. It runs in the background while you play — every time a save file changes, it captures a snapshot. Overwrite something you shouldn’t have? Roll back and keep going.
How does it work?
You tell it which games to watch. It monitors your save directories and creates a versioned snapshot every time a file changes. Snapshots are stored locally and synced to the cloud. You can browse your full history and restore any version.
What games does it work with?
Any PC game that stores saves as local files. It doesn’t matter what launcher or store you use — Steam, GOG, Epic, standalone. If the game writes save files to disk, Save Override can watch them.
How is this different from Steam Cloud or GOG Cloud?
Those services sync your latest save to the cloud so you can pick up on another machine. That works fine for what it is. Save Override does something different — it keeps every version. Quick-saved twelve times during a boss fight? That’s twelve versions you can go back to. Cloud sync gives you the last one.
There’s also the coverage gap. Cloud save support depends on the developer opting in. Plenty of games — especially older titles, indie games, and heavily modded setups — don’t have it. Save Override watches the files on disk, so it works with any game that writes saves locally.
Steam Cloud is also opaque — you can’t easily see what’s stored or manage it. Save Override gives you a browsable history where you can see every snapshot, compare versions, and delete what you don’t need.
Down the line, we want to add things like sharing saves with friends. But even without that, the core difference is simple: they sync your current save, we remember all of them.
Does it work with modded games?
Yes. Save Override backs up whatever files the game writes — modded or vanilla. Restoring a save from a different mod setup might not load right, but that’s on the game, not us. The save itself will always be there.
What platforms are supported?
Windows 10+ (64-bit) and Linux (x86_64). macOS is planned.
Does it affect game performance?
No. Save Override only runs when a save file changes on disk. It doesn’t hook into game processes or inject code. The snapshot happens after the game writes its save, in the background. You won’t notice it.
What does it cost?
Paid, but we hope to offer a free tier with limited features. We’re still working out the details — pricing will be announced before launch. We’re a small independent team with no ads, no data selling, no venture funding. Charging a fair price is how we stay independent and keep building.

Where is my data stored?
Save snapshots live on your machine and sync to cloud storage. Data is encrypted in transit. You own your data — delete any snapshot at any time.
How do I get involved?
We’re looking for early adopters — gamers who want to help us test Save Override and shape the product before public launch. Post in
#early-access on the
Discord; during this phase we provision accounts manually, so we’ll DM you to grab your email and send back the credentials you’ll need to sign in. Tell us what games you play, what you’ve lost, and what you’d want from a tool like this.
When is the public release?
We don’t have a date yet. We’re focused on getting it right, not getting it out fast. The early adopter phase is how we make sure the product actually works the way real gamers need it to. Follow the
blog or join the
Discord for updates.
